Description

As a Locum Perfusion and Surgical Care Practitioner (SCP), you will play a crucial role in supporting surgical teams in the operating theatre, providing both perfusion services and surgical care. This includes assisting with cardiac procedures, managing the heart-lung machine, and ensuring patient safety throughout surgical interventions. You will work closely with surgeons, anesthetists, and other healthcare professionals to deliver safe and efficient patient care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perfusion Services: Operate and manage heart-lung machines during cardiac surgeries, ensuring effective extracorporeal circulation and monitoring blood flow and patient status.
  • Surgical Assistance: Support surgical teams in various procedures by assisting with incisions, wound closure, and other intraoperative tasks.
  • Patient Preparation and Monitoring: Prepare patients for surgery, monitor their status during procedures, and provide post-operative support as required.
  • Documentation: Accurately document all perfusion and surgical activities in compliance with organizational and regulatory standards.
  • Equipment Management: Ensure all perfusion and surgical equipment is properly maintained, calibrated, and ready for use, following safety protocols.
  • Education and Training: Provide guidance and support to junior staff and colleagues, sharing knowledge and expertise in perfusion and surgical practices.

Essential Requirements

  • Qualifications: Degree or relevant qualification in Perfusion, Surgical Care, or a related field, with specialized training as a Perfusionist or Surgical Care Practitioner.
  • Experience: Proven experience as a Perfusionist or SCP, with expertise in cardiac perfusion and assisting in complex surgical procedures.
