Description
Reporting to the Hospital Director or programme specific lead therapist, the successful candidate will lead the occupational therapy department, covering all specialities. They will manage a caseload of patients with complex needs using evidence-based and patient-centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions.
Responsibilities:
- Leading the occupational therapy (OT) department and providing clinical supervision to the team of OTs who will be covering the eating disorders unit (EDU), addictions unit (EDU), obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) and related disorders unit and general psychiatry units.
- Holding responsibility for the budgeting of the service and being able to clearly demonstrate good practices when it comes to facilitating financial services.
- Establishing a therapeutic rapport with patients at an early stage in their admission.
- Working collaboratively with patients to identify and select an appropriate specialist intervention plan which aims to achieve therapeutic goals, maximise functional ability and wellbeing and balance the complex mental health needs of individuals.
- Utilising high-level skills and experience which relate to the EDU, OCD and related disorders unit, ADU and general psychiatry inpatient services.
- Applying a high level of understanding of the effects of mental illness and providing psychoeducation, information and advice on lifestyle changes and adaptations of the patient’s social and physical environment in order to promote recovery.
- Providing information, advice and support to carers, families and others as appropriate.
- Working in close cooperation with other staff on the unit, and with the community, offering specialist clinical advice and information.
