Description
Roles and Responsibilities
• Undertake the duties outlined in the Consultant Job Plan.
• Act in accordance with local protocols and standard operating procedures to
provide the best possible healthcare for patients in accordance with the
guidelines Good Medical Practice set out by the General Medical Council.
• On a clinical shift:
o Be responsible for the clinical management of patients attending the ED
o Supervise junior medical staff and medical students
o Advise and support other non-medical staff in the ED
o Working with the senior nurse to ensure the effective operation of the
Department.
o Lead the trauma team and cardiac arrest calls
• Contribute to and promote the patient safety agenda and be responsible for the
timely handling of complaints that arise during a clinical shift working
collaboratively with the leads for patient safety and quality.
• Prepare and deliver teaching to doctors, nurses, paramedic & medical students,
attached to the Department.
• Take an active part in clinical audit and other clinical governance processes.
• Daily checking of blood and x-ray-results.
• Ensure the learning from relevant learned societies, including Royal Colleges and
guideline development groups are translated into local clinical practices,
• Represent the department at internal and external hospital forums and meetings
as directed by the lead for Emergency Medicine, Clinical Director and the post
holders’ job plan.
